Statement of Purpose: The Program Specialist 1 is an entry-level position for CAN Community Health's Education & Prevention Team that focuses on the provision of program services including but not limited to HIV/STI testing, health education, and community outreach. This position reports directly to the Sr HIV Program Manager.


Primary Tasks: HIV Program Specialist 1

  1. Provides HIV/STI/Hepatitis C testing and pre- and post-test counseling in both clinic and community-based settings. Accurately documents the provision of testing in the electronic medical record and on paper as required.
  2. Provides education on Pre-exposure Prophylaxis to clients and community members and navigates clients for Pre-exposure Prophylaxis program.
  3. Serves as a representative of CAN Community Health during community-based outreach events. Conducts tabling and provides health education and testing as appropriate.
  4. Distributes condoms to community members and partner organizations.
  5. Collaborates with other disciplines internally and externally to coordinate client/patient services and community needs.
  6. Ensures client confidentiality 100% of the time by conforming to HIPAA laws and CAN Community Health Policies and Procedures.
  7. Drives and maintains the mobile sprinter unit as needed/applicable.
  8. Accurately documents and maintains records as related to grant efforts, including but not limited to time spent.

Secondary Tasks: HIV Program Specialist 1

  1. Participates in professional training and education to advance skills/knowledge of HIV/STIs/Hepatitis C.
  2. Maintains required certifications for the provision of services including but not limited to testing, as required by state/local health department.
  3. Supports CAN Community Health's efforts to develop new partnerships and partnership agreements in assigned region/territory.
  4. Represents CAN Community Health at local, state, and national conferences and meetings, as deemed necessary.
  5. Prepares HIV home test kits for distribution and utilizes appropriate forms and platforms to provide HIPAA compliant support to clients participating in the tele-testing program.
  6. Conducts online health education through the use of dating geolocation applications for CAN's virtual outreach program.
  7. Participates in special projects and initiatives and other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred: HIV Program Specialist 1

  1. Ability to apply principles of health promotion and disease prevention.
  2. Ability to accurately coordinate several tasks at one time.
  3. Able to work autonomously and self-motivated.
  4. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with a diverse population.
  5. Knowledge of community health services and agencies.
  6. Working knowledge Microsoft Office products including Outlook, Excel, Power Point and Microsoft Word.
  7. Demonstrates appropriate organizational skills.
  8. Demonstrates excellent communication skills.
  9. Ability to utilize problem-solving techniques.
  10. Demonstrates knowledge of HIPAA compliance.
  11. Knowledge of CDC effective behavioral interventions and motivational interviewing.
  12. Ability to work non-traditional hours on a regular basis, including nights and weekends.


Requirements:

Education/Professional: HIV Program Specialist 1

  • High School Diploma required
  • Minimum 1 year experience in a related field preferred, relevant college-level coursework may substitute for experience

Physical Requirements: HIV Program Specialist 1

  1. Neat professional appearance
  2. Exert up to 25 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Physical demands are in excess of those of sedentary work. Light work usually requires walking or standing to a significant degree.
  3. Requires expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken word, visual and auditory acuity.
