Role Summary:
The Operations Director is the sole subject matter expert and thought leader in setting the strategy necessary to drive safe and reliable operations for Horizon Air in the State of Alaska. This role designs and implements innovative solutions to achieve operational improvements in partnership with core Horizon operational groups (Stations, Flight Operations, Inflight, and Aircraft Maintenance) at Horizon Air. As an individual contributor, this role is critical to the success of the company through day-to-day oversite of the State of Alaska operations.

Key Duties:
As the sole subject matter expert and thought leader in a highly matrixed environment with various operational leadership teams, develop and implement an integrated strategic plan to best position Horizon Air for success and growth in the State of Alaska.

Design and implement innovative solutions to address operational needs and support operational growth. Implement process improvement strategies and techniques as needed.

Partner with divisional leadership to ensure support of all Horizon Air employees based in the State of Alaska (Pilots, Flight Attendants, and Maintenance Technicians). This will include traveling regularly to each city within the State of Alaska.

Define long-term strategy for the design and development of standard procedures to provide the framework for successful performance in the State of Alaska with the ability to increase the scale of the Horizon Air operation. Advise enterprise leaders on actions/strategies to successfully achieve long-term goals in safety and compliance for the Horizon Air operation in the State of Alaska through partnership local Alaska Airlines leadership.

Influence across the company as a liaison between Horizon and Alaska leadership to ensure effective alignment and best practice between the operational teams (e.g., Customer Service, Maintenance & Engineering, Flight Operations, Inflight, and other divisions).

Research station performance by seeking feedback and suggestions and monitoring industry best practices to ensure vendor stations are meeting performance expectations and develop solutions if they are not.

Represent the company at high-level, operational performance leadership meetings and weekly regional calls to evaluate the performance of Horizon Air operations and determine appropriate actions.

Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills:
Required

10 years of airline operations experience with knowledge of stations, maintenance, inflight, and flight operations. Experience should demonstrate progressive growth in complexity and level of responsibility.

Bachelor’s degree, or an additional two years of relevant training/experience in lieu of this degree.

A minimum of two years of leadership experience.

A proven ability to leverage business acumen and analytic capability to define and implement strategic goals to improve operations.

Experience successfully leading cross-divisional teams and partnering with external vendors.

Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to create collaborative relationships that drive outcomes both internally with others in the organization, and externally with key business partners.

Demonstrated ability to effectively present information and communicate to varying audiences.

Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

Ability and willingness to travel up to 50% of the time.

Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule based on business needs.

Valid passport with the ability to travel internationally, as needed.

Minimum age of 18.

High school diploma or equivalent.

Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

 

Preferred

Demonstrated ability to develop new ideas to improve safety, compliance, efficiency, and cost.

Demonstrates an innovative, resilient, fact-based and creative solutions-focused mindset, with ability to thrive in a rapidly changing, collaborative environment and to manage conflict.

Strong understanding of airport operations including but not limited to above-wing operations (e.g., ticket counter, gate, baggage) and below-wing operations (e.g., ramp operations)

Salary Range:
$108,800 - $168,600 / year

Total Target Compensation Range (incl. bonus & equity):
$134,536 - $207,492

Salary Details:
The pay range and total target compensation package listed above is the expected pay offered for this position at the start of employment. Your pay will be based on multiple factors, including and not limited to location, your relevant experience/level, experience level, and skillset while balancing internal equity relative to other Alaska/Horizon employees. Alaska/Horizon is committed to fair, unbiased compensation along with competitive benefits in all locations in which we operate.

 

Note: We don't typically hire at the top of the range.
