Overview:
It is the policy of Children’s Hospital to provide equal access to and equal participation in health care activities for persons with limited English proficiency and for individuals who are deaf or hard-of-hearing. It is the policy of Children’s Hospital to use qualified medical interpreters to assure this access. The Interpreter Services Scheduler coordinates scheduling and timely delivery of interpreting services for consumers and staff in need of language access services utilizing all available Children’s Hospital Interpreting Services resources per established policies and procedures
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8AM-12PM with some flexibility to stay later based on staffing needs.

Responsibilities:
Coordinates and schedules interpreter service for patients / families who are receiving care at Nationwide Children’s Hospital.
Responds to unscheduled and urgent requests for interpreters by other dispatching staff interpreters, accessing agency interpreters or guiding staff on the use of resources available.
Maintains on-going communication with contract agencies, staff interpreters and on-call interpreters regarding requests for interpreter services.
Reviews hospital scheduling system data for patient’s need for interpreter services.
Maintains up-to-date data base and tracks interpreter utilization throughout all setting in Children’s Hospital.
Provides supporting data for budget planning.
Coordinates the on-call interpreter schedules.
Assists the coordinator in developing on-call interpreter schedule for evenings, nights and weekends.
Assists in educating staff, physicians, and other appropriate staff on the policies for requesting interpreters for patients/families.
Compares interpreter schedule with interpreter billing in preparation for payment of purchased services to the agencies.
Participates in interpreter utilization workshops to help healthcare workers at all levels.
Participates in process improvement activities to achieve targeted measures of quality, service, work life and financial performance.
Assists in review and development of appropriate policies and procedures.
Provides clerical support for multiple functions within Interpreter Services.
Types and distributes minutes.
Assists in orientation and cross training of new employees.
Qualifications:
KNOWLEDGE , SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
High school graduate or equivalent required. Business school training desirable.
Proficiency in PC and mainframe computer applications and software (i.e., Windows, Microsoft Office Suite, , etc.) required.
Ability to manage telephones (i.e., multi-lines) and office equipment (i.e., copy machine, fax, etc.) required.
Superior customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills required for interaction with contacts.
Excellent ability to interact with people from cultures different from her own.
Ability to handle multiple responsibilities simultaneously and efficiently without direct supervision, make decisions within the scope of assigned authority required.
MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to see, speak, read, and perform manual tasks with our without accommodation, and care for oneself with little or no difficulty.
