Position Overview
The legal team, located in Atlanta, GA, is seeking a Legal Counsel! This role is responsible for partnering with Novelis’ North America legal and business teams to generate solutions and guide commercial transactions with suppliers and customers, including strategic planning, analysis, negotiation, review, drafting, implementation, and enforcement of key contracts. This diverse role involves the management and resolution of contractual issues and commercial disputes, and handling other legal matters to anticipate and address legal issues and ensure that Novelis’ risks and liabilities are minimized while promoting business interests. The position will also support training employees on legal and corporate compliance matters and special project management.

Strategic and practical legal advice and counseling in support of capital expansion projects, energy procurement, the building and construction value stream, the logistics and transportation teams, and functional business leaders.
Managing strategic commercial and business contract arrangements with suppliers and customers, including the planning, structuring, analysis, negotiation, review, drafting and implementation of strategic commercial arrangements for the automotive value stream.
Supervising and implementing general risk management and litigation avoidance strategies, while staying on top of legal and regulatory changes to optimally communicate issues and solutions across all levels of the business organization.
Delivering strategic mentorship, counsel, advice and assistance on a variety of complex transactions and arrangements, and cross-functional support in multiple areas.
Implementing general risk management and avoidance strategies, providing training, and influencing business managers to adopt standard methodologies as necessary.
Minimum qualifications:
Juris Doctor degree from accredited U.S. law school
Minimum 6 years’ experience as in-house counsel or with law firm.
Excellent contract negotiation and drafting skills
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills and the ability to use independent judgment and creativity to resolve sophisticated legal issues.
Significant experience independently negotiating intricate contracts and resolving commercial disputes.
Experience counseling global organizations on commercial issues.
Ability to work independently and lead all aspects of projects.
Meticulous and has ability to manage transactions and projects simultaneously under deadline pressure.
Experience negotiating contracts with energy suppliers, including renewable energy, commodity gases, power, and natural gas is a plus, as is experience negotiating with railroads, trucking companies, and freight forwarders.
Experience with litigation and commercial dispute resolution.
Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication and leadership capabilities, and competence to build and sustain lasting relationships with suppliers, customers and leaders within the company.
